UK Bans Gambling Ads Featuring Celebrities and Video Game Imagery to Protect Youth

The United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) will soon implement strict regulations concerning betting promotions. They are increasing pressure on gaming firms to safeguard minors and susceptible grown-ups.

The ASA emphasizes that these regulations will significantly impact businesses employing sports figures, famous individuals, and social media personalities to reach young demographics. Essentially, any marketing strategy appealing to those under 18 is prohibited, irrespective of adult opinions. Consequently, renowned footballers or athletes with a youthful fan base will no longer appear in advertisements.

Furthermore, the ASA is restricting the utilization of elements like popular video games and reality TV stars favored by young audiences. They aim to prevent gambling promotions from indirectly targeting children through imagery and themes they find appealing.

The ASA asserts its commitment to safeguarding young individuals, and these regulations represent the latest effort in their continuous mission to maintain ethical gambling advertising. The new regulations take effect on October 1st, 2022.
