US Sports Fans Gear Up for Record World Cup Betting Frenzy

A new poll by BettorOff found that almost 50% of US sports enthusiasts intend to wager on the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Notably, 18% of participants will be placing wagers on soccer for the very first time, and nearly 75% expect to boost their soccer wagering engagement following the World Cup.

The poll was carried out among 1,500 adult sports enthusiasts residing in the 21 US states, including Washington D.C., where internet sports betting is permitted.

Over two-thirds of enthusiasts aim to maintain relatively small wagers, betting under $200 throughout the competition, which spans from November 20 to December 18.

While more than 25% of respondents plan to wager on every single game, slightly over half will concentrate their betting on particular squads, with 13% solely betting on matches involving the US team.

Lastly, the time zone difference between the US and Qatar, the tournament’s host nation, doesn’t appear to be a hindrance, as 79% of enthusiasts indicated they would place bets even if unable to view the matches live.

For context, FIFA approximated that the total global betting handle for the 2018 World Cup reached $146 billion. At that time, only three US states – Nevada, Delaware, and New Jersey – provided legal sports betting, primarily confined to physical venues.

“The enthusiasm and potential surrounding the World Cup are immense,” remarked Alex Dubin, CEO and Founder of BettorOff.

The growing enthusiasm for pro football in America, coupled with increased accessibility of online wagering, suggests this global tournament will be truly monumental.”
