Kansas Sports Betting Reaches Record High in September

The Kansas sports wagering volume hit a peak in September, with bettors placing a total of $219.3 million on sporting events during the month, establishing a new monthly record for the state.

Kansas opened its legal sports betting marketplace in September 2022, with bettors placing $160.5 million in wagers during the inaugural month, a 36.6% year-on-year increase.

The September 2023 figures also signify a 132.3% increase from August’s $94.4 million, exceeding the prior record of $206.3 million set in March of this year by 6.3%.

Of all bets placed in September, $201.1 million were placed online, while $18.2 million was spent at physical sportsbooks.

Earnings for September were $8.1 million, a 523.1% increase from the same period last year, which was $1.3 million, and a 68.8% increase from August’s $4.8 million.

Online sports betting accounted for $7.6 million of the total earnings for the month, while the retail share was $459,336.

Boot Hill Casino and its partner DraftKings continued to lead the online market in Kansas, with the partnership generating $97.2 million in wagering volume in September, while earnings reached $3.3 million.

Kansas Star Casino and FanDuel came in second with $54.5 million in wagering volume and $3 million in total earnings. Kansas Crossing Casino and BetMGM came in third with $21.4 million in wagering volume and $813,946 in earnings.

Within the realm of retail sports wagering in Kansas, Hollywood Casino and Barstool Sportsbook maintain their top position. Gamblers placed bets totaling sixteen million dollars at the establishment, resulting in a revenue stream of three hundred ninety-three thousand four hundred eighty-five dollars.

The Kansas Star and its FanDuel retail sports wagering operation closely trailed behind, with wagers reaching one point two million dollars and revenue reaching eleven thousand seven hundred seventeen dollars.

The state’s coffers received a total of four hundred eighty-four thousand three hundred sixty-six dollars in taxes for the month. This sum encompassed seven hundred sixty thousand one hundred sixty-three dollars in online taxes and forty-five thousand nine hundred thirty-four dollars in retail taxes.
